Please note: This seminar will be held in English.

This 3-day or 4-day training includes intensive practical exercises on your own notebook based on the current FRED full version and is identical to the courses in Tucson, Arizona. The training is led by a developer of Photon Engineering from the USA. The strength of FRED lies in the non-sequential simulation of complex systems. Sequential raytracing is also possible and allows discrete analyzes of individual optical paths.

The registration deadline for the FRED seminar is four weeks before the first day of the seminar.

In the first 3 days you will learn:

The FRED philosophy - Visualization as the key to understanding optical system designs
Structure of the function menus and controls
Application of visualization functions to achieve technically meaningful and understandable representations
Designing and modifying geometries using FRED
Import geometries from optics design and CAD programs
Export geometries and beam analysis results to CAD programs
Working with surface properties including coatings, scattered light models and beam analysis functions
Designing coherent and incoherent light sources
Apply beam analysis tools including single and target raytracing, as well as sequential and non-sequential raytracing
Design of analysis surfaces
Calculation of radiation intensities, illumination analyzes, performance (power throughput), color and image analyzes, polarization analyzes, scattered light and ghosting effects, thermal radiometry
Digitizing surface coatings, transmission and reflection characteristics, geometries, spectral distributions, and indices of refraction
Use of advanced FRED resources such as scripting via Visual Basic
FRED as client / server application

The fourth day includes:

Communication between FRED and BASIC compiler
Data access by means of nodes and structures (object-oriented programming)
Data import and data manipulation
Simple and advanced raytracing
Use of buffers in raytracing
Setting up energy balances during raytracing
Use of pre-update and post-update scripts
Automation via w / COM: FRED as client or server
Using subroutines (subscripts)
The training includes a current FRED full version including USB key for the entire training period as well as a user manual. Please bring your notebook (at least 1 GHz CPU, Windows XP, at least 256 MB RAM) for training.

About FRED:

FRED is an almost comprehensive simulation tool. Unlike classical lens design tools, which are predominantly simulated sequentially, the power of FRED in non-sequential simulation is through complex systems (i.e., from the beam source to the imaging plane or detector). Sequential raytracing is also possible and allows discrete analyzes of individual optical paths.

They can simulate the propagation of coherent light (Gaussian beam decomposition) and incoherent light. The large field of application and the 3D presentation make it a flexible simulation tool for inexperienced users as well as for experienced specialists.
