A splicer is used to create a permanent fiber optic connection between fiber optics using plasma. Very low splice attenuations are prerequisites in buildings and in campus areas (LAN), as well as in wide areas (WAN) and city network areas (MAN). In manufacturing and research, especially when it comes to component manufacturing, splicing technology is a key element of connection technology. During the splicing process, the fiber ends are exactly positioned relative to one another (cladding or core alignment) and are fused together with an arc discharge.
