Beam Analysing Systems

Introduction

Beam analysing systems are necessary in order to achieve information about the spatial intensity distribution or phase in the cross section of a laser beam. There are two different measurement principles to distinguish. Each laser or optical source has special requirements, which are important to consider to choose the right system to measure. In this section you will find a short, more general description of the different systems we offer. A more detailed description including all important specifications can be found on the appropriate pages. Of course we are ready to demonstrate selected systems.

Single Detectors / Scanningsystems

are characterised by a high dynamic intensity range. In combination with single slits, pinholes and high resolution stepper motors they are able to obtain a high spatial resolution as well. Due to the mechanical scanning principle these systems can mostly be used only to measure cw or qcw lasers. Main applications are to measure smallest spot size, the measurement of the M²-Factor or the direct scanning of larger beam dimensions without any additional imaging. To match different laser wavelengths it is possible to choose between different detectors. Si-, Ge- and InGaAs equipped scan heads are available.

Area detectors / Cameras

Systems with true 2D-(area) detectors do have a smaller optical dynamic range and a limited spatial resolution (due to the pixel size), but are able to capture the full beam within one shot. In combination with imaging optics or suitable selected lenses they are able to measure highly divergent sources like LED’s also. By means of additional converting optics our standard Si based CCD- or CMOS WinCamD cameras can detect also other wavelengths in the UV or IR range. 185

BeamScope, BeamMap, BeamR

By means of the scanning slit systems BeamScope, BeamMap, BeamR we offer a complete family of products in that area. The BeamScope is an extremely flexible linear scanning system, suitable to measure smallest spot diameters as well as large area emitters. As an option it can be extended with a linear translation stage, to build a M²-measurement system. The BeamR is the basic version of all our rotating slit measurement systems. Based on this device, the patented scan head architecture of the BeamMap family allows real time measurement of beam parameters, focus position, divergence or M² in XYZ. Now available with USB-Port!

WinCamD-UCM/ -UHR / -UHS

The well approved WinCamD-Classic/-UCM has got an successor: WinCamD-UXX stands for a family of compact, efficient and particularly easy-to-use beam analysis cameras equipped with CMOS sensors and USB interfaces
Three different models allow a much better customisation of the camera based measurement systems according to the requirements of the application.

New: M2 Stage for WinCamD

As a further technical innovation the M2 accessory for the WinCamD provides an elegant solution for an M2 analysis of beam waists according to the ISO standard. With this accessory it is now possible to analyze pulsed beams regardless of their repetition rates.

Wavefront measurement

These measurement systems allow the determination and the display of the wavefront or phase of the radiation emitted from an optical source. The shape and the distortion of the wavefront is an important additional parameter in the characterisation of the behaviour of complex optical systems. The combination of the wavefrontsensor with adaptive optic elements gives the opportunity to build automated feedback loops to optimise beam quality and focusability.
